MAKAI
THE NAME MAKAI (MUH-KAHY) HAS IT’S ROOTS IN THE HAWAIIAN LANGUAGE
AND MEANS TOWARD THE SEA.

Makai was a personal project where I was doing things that I am passionate about (illustrating, creating and woodworking). Most of the time covered in sawdust and paint, I built boards and illustrated images I loved to share. I created the concept and an onlineshop to sell a unique line of upcycled skateboards and cruisers and individual, sustainable, handprinted fashion. Collaborations with local manufacturers gave me the chance to release also limited editions of prints and custom pieces. By offering upcycled and eco-friendly high quality products, Makai enabled ethically conscious consumers to support upcycling and recycling development and the growth of a local creator.
